In Memory of My Grandpa ---Darrell F. Pehrson

On February 28, 2008 our father, grandfather, and friend Darrell F. Pehrson, age 83, passed peacefully from this life to the next surrounded by the family he loved. He was born to Alexander J. Pehrson and Lula V. Parks Pehrson on January 28, 1925 in Pocatello, Idaho. He served his country with honor in the Marine Corps during World War II and while on leave he married his sweetheart Dorothy Vanderlinden in the Salt Lake Temple, September 2, 1943.

He loved sports and gave many hours of dedicated service to the youth programs of his community in Murray, Utah. He also served on the Murray City Board of Adjustments. In 1995 he was honored for his years of community service by receiving a “Star” of the Community Award from Murray City. Anything he chose to do he gave his heart to and did to perfection. His tool sheds were impeccably organized and his flower and vegetable gardens were extraordinarily beautiful. He received a Beautification Award from Murray City in 1991. He shared his talents through helping others with various projects over the years and he shared his beautiful flowers and vegetables with everyone. During his years employed at Stevens-Brown Sporting Goods the shipping and receiving department he managed was in perfect order. He was a wonderful example to everyone as a dedicated and greatly appreciated employee.

He loved his family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of his life and he kept an ample supply of cookies and candy on hand just for them. His last words to us were to love, watch over, and care for one another.

My grandpa passed away this past Thursday and I will miss him. I have had the opportunity to live with him for almost the past 3 years and it has been a fun and crazy little ride. I will miss all of his many noises he would make around the house, funny how some things that annoy you, at some point, become things you miss when they are no longer around... from the tapping of his cane, to the sound of his oxygen machine, his loud music or TV, the sound of his fork tapping over and over on his plate, the clearing of his throat, so so many things. I am grateful for the relationship I had with him in this life and am grateful I will see him again someday. I know he lives on and has had a wonderful reunion with his 3 children and wife. I love you and will miss you gramps!!

My grandpa passed away about 6 months ago. You know that they are happy, healthy and having fun but it is still hard to lose someone so close. I bet my grandpa is in heaven bribing your grandpa to make him some yummy cookies right now!

I was so sorry to hear about "grandpa". We loved watching him around the circle with his walker.
